U.S.- Mexico – Canada New Trade Agreement

Date: October 3, 2018

The US and Canada reached an agreement to sign, along with Mexico, a new trilateral trade pact called The US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)-to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The USMCA is expected to be signed on November 30, but before going into effect, it needs to be approved by lawmakers from all three countries.

The US-Canada agreement excluded changes to US Section 232 aluminum and steel tariffs as in the case of US-Mexico. Both Canada and Mexico will continue to face a 10% tariff on their aluminum exports to the US.
